New Installment of Summer Cottage from Hell from The Sinclair Narratives

Another installment  to keep you entertained during this time of containment

This week Henry, Tesla, Teddy Roosevelt, John Hammond Jr. (Hammond Castle), and President Taft meet at the Essex Country Club in Manchester. There Telsa and John Hammond Jr. argue if flesh can be reanimated after death and we meet General George Patton.

Come back every Tuesday for another installment of Summer Cottage from Hell appearing in the Winter Issue of Arkham Tales from the Flipside. A story featuring everyone’s favorite immortal, Henry Sinclair, and his third-generation Viking ragtag crew where they are out to solve the mysterious death of the man who rented President Taft his Summer Whitehouse for two years. Tesla, Roosevelt, Illuminati, and Lovecraft monsters fill this tale based on real events in Beverly MA.

Salem Fagin

The First Boy’s Club and Tunnels…

The First Boy’s Club in the country was held in a building attached to this tunnel. In fact the three locations that the club first resided in were all attached to the smuggling tunnels in Salem MA. The first was the Downing Block next to the Peabody Essex Museum. The second location was in the Salem Lyceum that previous housed a lecture series where Alexander Graham Bell introduced his phone publicly at. The third location was in the old Essex County Bank building built by Charles Bulfinch who became the Architect of D.C. who built all the tunnels under our capitol.

The Boy’s Club learned an important early lesson; keep the kids in a brick building. For the one time they were housed in a wooden building, the Lyceum, they burned it down.  The location where James Russell Lowell introduced the Dante Club’s translation of The Inferno was burned to the ground by these children.

So why was it so important to have these economically challenged children in building attached to the tunnels? Were they helping the sailors and captains smuggle in town? Were they assisting in the runaway slaves attempts at gaining freedom? Or were they run by a Salem Fagin who had them act like the Artful Dodger and break into the homes that also were attached to the tunnels?

Who is to say, but it makes you think…

Vintage Salem Morning

Corner of Essex Street and Saint Peter’s Street

This is the second location of Ted Cole’s Music shop. The first I believe was on the corner of Front and Central Street in a building replaced by a cherry dogwood tree and an air conditioner unit. Previously in the location above was an Eaton Pharmacy. Now the East India Mall and the fountain have closed off Saint Peter’s access to this corner. Can you name where Ted Cole’s final location was?

Send us your favorite vintage Salem photos to info@salemhousepress.com and we will post them and give you a shout out! Also if you have something to add about the photo from family histories, your readings, or your memories, please share them below in the comments section.

The Truth About September 11th

I am President John Tyler…

I became president after the assassination of William Harrison. My whole administration walked out on me on September 11th. All except Daniel Webster who was settling the Webster-Ashburton Treaty with the Barring Brothers Bank which were bribing him to create the Third National Bank of the united States. I refused to make the bank and my administration walked out on me on the anniversary of Alexander Hamilton becoming the first Secretary of the Treasury and creating the First National on September 11th. The first and second Banks had their charters expire because they were dominated by English bankers like Baring Brother’s Bank. September 11th has always been an important date in American economic history and still is. Check it out for yourself.

I am President William Harrison

I am the First to Suffer Tecumseh’s Curse

William Henry Harrison

My son died 2 weeks before my inauguration and I died a month after. You might believe I died from pneumonia a month after exposure to a snowstorm speech I had made. I was assassinated by Senators Henry Clay and Daniel Webster for my refusal for banking a third national bank. I was poisoned by typhoid; the same as Polk and Taylor! The first to suffer Tecumseh’s Curse…

I am Chief Justice Isaac Parker

I Never Missed a Day on the Bench Till..

Isaac Parker painting

I was the Chief Justice of Massachusetts and one of the original High Federalist. I died 3 days after I said I never felt better and never missed a day on the bench. I was to preside over the murder case that inspired the American version of Clue by Parker Brothers. The murder happened 3 months earlier in 1830 and 3 days after Daniel Webster supposedly came to Salem to prosecute the case. Previously I was the judge accusing him of been a traitor in the 1812 War. The Parker Brothers were the grandson of my cousin William Parker.

I am President Zachary Taylor

I lasted 16 Months in Office

President Taylor Murdered?

You don’t know me. It is hard to be a famous president when you were assassinated 16 months into your presidency. Even worse when most people believe you ate a combination of strawberries, milk, and ice cream and died. My name is President Zachary Taylor and I was assassinated by typhoid poisoning by Daniel Webster and Henry Clay for my reluctance for making a third national bank. Plus I was not the first they got away with…

I am Henry Clay

I was one of the three most powerful senators, but you don’t remember me

I first came to Salem to advise a rope maker on the advantages of hemp. Once in town I met John Quincy Adams and became his Secretary of State. I also met Daniel Webster who was one of the Triumphant of senators with me. We plotted and got away with assassinating 3 presidents trying to make the third national bank.
