Welcome to the Salem Tunnel Report. Every Monday we will post new and old tunnel finds along with those who built them. In our posts you will learn how Salem has shaped American history from the profits of the smuggling that happened in these tunnels; sometimes for the good, but more often not.
We received a letter from Janet Evanovich after we found out she read Salem Secret Underground; The History of the Tunnels in the City. Info from the book was used in Wicked Charms, so we sent a signed copy and its sequel Sub Rosa.
Another book cites “Salem Secret Underground: The History of the Tunnels in the City” and the Salem Smugglers’ Tour. In Wicked Truths:Book 3 of the Wicked Cries series has the characters taking the Salem Smugglers’ Tour and talking about info from the book.
Also The Librarians TV Show, and Carol Perry in her Witch City Mysteries have researched the book in writing their tales. In Perry’s latest book there is two characters that even shares my last name, Dowgin. Have you read the book these people really dig yet?
For more read Salem Secret Underground: The History of the Tunnels in the City and its sequel Sub Rosa by Chris Dowgin published by Salem House Press. Available at Barnes & Noble, Remember Salem, , The Witch House, Jolie Tea, and Amazon.com.
In Wicked Truths:Book 3 of the Wicked Cries series has the characters taking the tour and talking about info from the book. Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton used the book to research for their Wicked Charms book. Also The Librarians TV Show and Carol Perry in her Witch City Mysteries used the book to research the tunnels in Boston and Salem. Have you read the book these people really dig yet? Check out The Wicked Truth Series….
Also Carol Perry in her newest book in the “Witch City Mystery” series have created a cast of characters using my families surname. In her previous work she used Salem Secret Underground: The History of the Tunnels in the City as research to understand the tunnel routes inside the town. I wonder if Carol or Janet was the first to use my book to study tunnels in Salem for their books.
It is cool to see who is reading Salem Secret Underground and how mystery writers are building tales of the tunnels I helped to bring to light.
You can buy Salem Secret Underground: The History of the Tunnels in the City today at Salem House Press or Amazon.com. Pre-orders for Grave Errors can be purchased here on Amazon.com.
A Characters Named Dowgin?
My friend Carol Perry has just completed another of her “Witch City Mystery” series. The new one is Grave Errors set inside of Salem on Nov 1st, the Day of the Dead when Salem truly turns into a ghost town. She has graced my family with having characters named after our surname (I hope their good characters). So check out Grave Errors and the other books in the “Witch City Mystery” series which is largely set within Daniel Lowe’s.
One book featured the tunnels she read about in Salem Secret Underground. I wonder if the tunnels return in this book… She even beat Janet Evanovich in using the book on the tunnels in her mystery series. Evanovich used my research in Wicked Charms set in Salem and Marblehead. Check Carol’s series out now, and then be all caught up when Grave Errors is released!
Here is Carol mentioning me in the Acknowledgements:
