The Bright Side of the Moon
Welcome to another adventure from the Thousand Acre Woods deep within Trollheim of the NJ Pine Belt! Tales Chronicled by Jonathan Hulton... That’s me! Today’s tale, Bjorn an me bask under the moon telling tales and sharing some amazing myths.
"Its the full moon again," I said.
"Mundilfari, Father Time, has sent his son into the sky to pull the moon once again," Bjorn pointed. "Yes, he just washed the moon's clothes and they are shinning full and bright."
"What is more important the sun or moon."
"The moon because its light is needed more in the dark," Bjorn smiled. "You know I went to the moon once?"
"How did you get back?"
"I tied a rope to some fine Jarlsberg and dropped it half way to earth and climbed down."
" How did you get the rest of the way down?"
"I wasn't using the top anymore, so I cut it and added it to the bottom."
"I had to slide down a moonbeam once; what are the different names of the moon?"
"Alvíss the dwarf said it is called "moon" by mankind, "fiery one" by the gods, "the whirling wheel" in Hel, "the hastener" by the Jotnar, "the shiner" by the dwarves, and "the counter of years" by the elves."
"What does he know?" I laughed. "He tends to slip under the table when he is drinking with Gramps."
"Well, yeah."
"Did you hear the wolf howling at the moon?"
"Must be Hati Hróðvitnisson—I never knew if he is Mani's enemy or Fenrir's…"
"What?"
"The wolf that chases Mani and the moon; I always thought he was playing fetch."
"Hey, look closely—is that Karl on the moon with a hobo stick?"
"Yes, Angroboda got even with him for tricking her to sit on the beach overnight."
"Hugh,"
"Angroboda is named after the wolf's mother and the goddess had the power to send him there—he must be as mad as a lunatic by now."
"For an analyst, he never seemed that sane."
"Well they tend to seek their own cures through others…"
Then Bjorn threw away his favorite pocket watch.
"Why did you do that—are you mad?" I asked concerned.
"Imagine my happiness when I find it again."
"That would be a Hel of a time then."

Following the Harry N. Abrams, Inc. tradition of the series that created Brian Froud's and Alan Lee's Faeries and Gnomes by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet, we present you with what would have been the next book in the series: Trolls: A Compendium. Trolls—do you think you know what they are? Could you be wrong?
Trolls within Scandinavian lore, myth, saga, fantasy, and folktales are actually anything magical within our northern neighbor's culture. Richly illustrated in this volume are the tales of faeries, dwarves, nissen, huldras, gods, Jotuns, draugar, ghosts, and more. Also, this book introduces our readers to the world of Trollheim, populated by Nattrolls that escaped the 17th-century Swedish colony within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Narrated by Christopher Jonathan Hulton, who lives in the Thousand Acre Woods just after the Civil War, their tales are filled with Native American lore and tales of their neighbor, the Jersey Devil.
