A Walk Across the Pond
Welcome to another adventure from the Thousand Acre Woods. A place on the edge of Trollheim deep within the mysterious NJ Pine Belt! Tales Chronicled by Christopher Jonathan Hulton...That's me! Today's tale, Gramps tries to walk to Norway, over the ocean...

One day, Gramps decided to visit Norway. Bjorn said he tried walking back, but at his tallest he could only reach Labrador with his first step from Toms River. On his second step, he just missed the shoals of Greenland.

By the time he stuck his knee into the water, he realized it was too deep and returned to Labrador. He accidentally knocked a family of walruses off a small cliff and sucked a school of fish to the ocean floor as he withdrew his foot.

Now safely back in Toms River, he shrunk down to the size of a mouse and stowed away on a schooner leaving the Cranberry Inlet.

Once disembarking, he dropped his disguise and departed as the tallest Viking of years past. He ducked under the town gate and scraped his horn as he left the dock with his tail swishing.

It's not strange to see a Troll walking in Stavanger. In fact, it has been a daily occurrence for thousands of years. Some see their tails. Others ignore it. Some never see it. The Lutherans have the hardest time seeing Trolls at all; they keep chastising people for talking to themselves.
The customs officials only worry when ill-tempered Nisse from America come to visit family demanding their rice pudding and the finest horses. They were the original ugly Americans.

Gramps visited his hulder cousin at the Four Salmon Inn and shared some conversations over pints of root beer.

The next day, he grew to a prodigious height, not as high as when he tried walking here, but tall enough to walk over a fjord or two. Then, following the switchbacks over the mountains, his first step was in Trondheim, and the next was within the northwestern mountains.

Soon he stepped over Trollveggen, the Troll Wall, and into Finnmark.

There he met his risi cousin.

He took the trip to bring back Beowulf's legendary horde of honey to cure his hay fever. It would make a wonderful medicinal blueberry melomel to be used when Grams is not around…
His cousin suggested a ship leaving from Oslo to Labrador, then he could walk home from there. So he took out his thimble, poured the honey into it, and placed it in his overalls pocket

On board the ship, the thimble looked as big to him as a normal cauldron on the other side of the wainscoting.
Departing in Canada, he walked back home with Beowulf's horde safely tucked in his pocket.

Following the Harry N. Abrams, Inc. tradition of the series that created Brian Froud's and Alan Lee's Faeries and Gnomes by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet, we present you with what would have been the next book in the series: Trolls: A Compendium. Trolls—do you think you know what they are? Could you be wrong?
Trolls within Scandinavian lore, myth, saga, fantasy, and folktales are actually anything magical within our northern neighbor's culture. Richly illustrated in this volume are the tales of faeries, dwarves, nissen, huldras, gods, Jotuns, draugar, ghosts, and more. Also, this book introduces our readers to the world of Trollheim, populated by Nattrolls that escaped the 17th-century Swedish colony within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Narrated by Christopher Jonathan Hulton, who lives in the Thousand Acre Woods just after the Civil War, their tales are filled with Native American lore and tales of their neighbor, the Jersey Devil.
